The mindful parenting approach encourages parents to slow down and to notice—in any given interaction—what is going on within their own thoughts and feelings while also thinking about what may be going on within their children. It’s an approach that supports deeper understanding of inner experience and that in turn can lead to more responsive rather than reactive parenting.
The Mindful Parenting Program at WBCC helps to develop this parental reflective function. Parents are invited first to observe and then to reflect on what is evolving in the present moment during observation period and during the discussion afterward, when they will also have a chance to speak to any issues of concern they might be having at home or in the group.
